Cecilia Peck, Kiesha Nix, Rita Tuzon, Jennifer Weg and the Women of Soap Box To Be Honored at GirlPower Awards Luncheon
LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, April 28, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On Friday, May 5, 2017, A Place Called Home (APCH), a non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles, will host the 2017 GirlPower Awards Luncheon at the Skirball Cultural Center at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. Emmy-nominated television personality, Liz Hernandez, will be hosting the GirlPower Awards Luncheon.
The GirlPower Awards Luncheon honors inspirational women who are role models in their personal and professional lives, and whose leadership and philanthropic efforts make a meaningful difference in the world.
The 2017 Honorees are: Emmy-nominated filmmaker, Cecilia Peck, to receive the Courage in Storytelling Award; Netflix Originals Marketing Manager, Jennifer Weg and the Women of Soap Box, to receive the Women Leading The Way Award; Executive Director of the Lakers Youth Foundation, Kiesha Nix, to receive the Community Leadership Award; and Rita Tuzon, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Fox Networks and recipient of the Integrity In Leadership Award. Alongside them, A Place Called Home will celebrate a special group of young women - APCH members who are empowered to improve their own lives and contribute to their communities and beyond.

The APCH GirlPower program empowers young women to overcome societal stereotypes and traditional gender roles, to stand up for themselves and advocate for others, and to pursue their aspirations with rigor and vigor.
This year, the GirlPower girls will also award the GirlPower Choice Award to Dr. Meschellia Johnson, President of South Los Angeles National Organization for Women, who for over 20 years, has dedicated herself to educating and empowering young people throughout Los Angeles County.
