Jonathan Zeichner has worked for more than two decades to improve and expand the lives of underserved, homeless and mentally ill youth, families, veterans, incarcerated young men and victims of violence.At APCH Zeichner heads up a dedicated staff providing programs and services in education, college and vocational support, music, dance, visual, performing and digital art instruction, fitness, nutrition, gardening, counseling and a comprehensive array of additional programs to support inner-city youth 8-21 years old and their families.
Prior to his leadership at APCH, Zeichner co-founded and helmed the nationally acclaimed Inside Out Community Arts, a nonprofit serving youth throughout Los Angeles via arts-based after-school programming; was artistic director of the Imagination Workshop at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute; and wrote, directed and acted for film, television and the theater.
In 2006 The School Project, a program Zeichner conceived and launched, received the National Coming Up Taller Award from The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Zeichner is a Durfee Fellow, sits on several nonprofit boards, and has been a speaker and instructor in many educational, psychiatric, social service and nonprofit settings.
In 2009 Zeichner received the Southern California Center for Nonprofit Management’s Award for Excellence in Leadership and Innovation.
Dr. Styles has been with APCH for over a decade, starting as the first full-time counselor and rising to her current role as the Director of Counseling Services. Under her purview, counseling and case management services are offered to APCH members and their families year round, free of charge. Dr. Styles has worked to bring counseling to the forefront as a direct response to the multi-faceted problems facing the youth in South Central Los Angeles, an area plagued by violence, poorly performing schools and high rates of unemployment. Focusing on behavior management, self-regulation and self-efficacy, the APCH model addresses cycles of familial dysfunction by collaborating with member families, local schools and other community-based agencies to facilitate a culture of youth empowerment and healthy development.
Julie Poulos Sims joined the APCH team in 2016 as the Director of Operations. In this role, she oversees the accounting, human resources, transportation, security and facilities departments. With more than fifteen years of nonprofit and private sector operational management experience in the Los Angeles area, Julie brings a dedication to systemic social change and the mission of APCH. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame. Julie began her professional career as a campus and community organizer in New Jersey, working on independent electoral campaigns, before moving to the west coast. Through her work in Los Angeles, Julie’s leadership has contributed to the protection of parks and open space, supported local ballot measures to improve the quality of our local water supply, and provided after-school opportunities for some of the most under-served communities in the city.
