Girlpower Empowerment Day 2019
On Saturday, April 6, 2019, the Girlpower group hosted their 3rd annual Girlpower Empowerment Day at A Place Called Home, a day of celebration of girls and women in our community. In the morning the girls participated in empowering workshops, starting their day with a meditation session lead by Britt Love. The second workshop, led by Julie Gomez and Beatriz Gomez from Gomez Jiu-Jitsu, was a fun session on learning some Jiu Jitsu basics. The last workshop of the day was led by local community activist, Edna Chavez, focusing on the how-tos of organizing youth in the community. After the workshops, everyone sat down for a yummy luncheon catered by our friends from The Beverly Hills Peninsula. Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation CEO, Nichol Whiteman, and local community activist, Edna Chavez sat on this year’s panel. The panel was moderated by two of our very own teens, Michelle, and Janet, who by the way did an amazing job! It was a full day of true empowerment, community, strength, and inspiration.
