Inspiring Fearless & Creative Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is a big area of focus for us with our members. We want each and every girl and boy in our program to leave with the skills they need to succeed as they become adults. Here are two specific ways that your support is helping us make this possible.

Creating New Products From Recycled Goods

In our Social Enterprise & Entrepreneurship (SEE) classes, you’ll find girls and boys repurposing coffee grounds, used paper, secondhand frames, and old mugs to develop products that don’t cause harm to our planet.

You’d be amazed at what they’ve created.

They’ve made candles, lip balms, face scrubs, chalkboard frames, beeswax wraps, and much more. Check out some of the photos below.

The girls and boys who are participating aren’t just making products. They’re also selling them. By selling their own invented products, members in the SEE program develop fearlessness, creativity, interpersonal communications skills, and the power of persuasion.

Pitching Big Ideas To Business Leaders

Our 2018 BizCamp partnership with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) was a radical success. 24 middle and high schoolers came up with business ideas that create positive social or environmental impact, put together a pitch deck, and presented to judges from Warner Bros, MullenLowe, DIFF Eyewear, Herbalife, and APCH’s Leadership Council. Wow!

Drumroll, please… eighth grade member Hennessey Soto-Silvas won first prize at APCH BizCamp. But that’s not all. She was selected to compete in NFTE’s National Business Challenge in New York in October 2018! NFTE flew her to the Big Apple to compete for up to $15,000, as well as provided her with the opportunity to sell her products to buyers in NYC.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be posting more about social entrepreneurship and Hennessey’s great adventure in the Big Apple.
