A Safe Place to Learn and Grow
Celebrating National Mentoring Month at A Place Called Home
January has arrived which means it’s officially #NationalMentoringMonth–one of our favorites to celebrate here at A Place Called Home. AND that’s not all, this year our L.I.F.E. Mentoring Program is celebrating 10 YEARS *confetti toss*!
Here’s a little 411:
The APCH Mentoring Program consists of two parts, L.I.F.E. Mentoring and Group Mentoring. Through our L.I.F.E. Mentoring Program, APCH members are matched with caring adults who offer wisdom, guidance, and both personal and professional support. Mentor/Mentee pairs also go on outings together, participate in activities with our Mentoring Staff at APCH, and much more!
Our Group Mentoring Program consists of 4 groups: G.E.M. (Girls Empowering Many), GirlPower, Junior Journey, and Journey. G.E.M. and GirlPower are programs for our girls and young women, respectively, while Junior Journey and Journey are their counterparts for our boys and young men. Through all of our group mentoring programs, our members build community, develop their identities, learn leadership skills and, most importantly, support each other through their successes and challenges.
To learn more about each specific program, head over to our Instagram to check out our series highlighting each one!
In celebration of National Mentoring Month, we asked members of our Journey and GirlPower cohorts what peer mentoring means to them. Here are a few thoughts they shared:
“Journey is a circle of trust.”
“Journey means brotherhood and manhood.”
“Journey has taught me how to love & trust.”
“Journey has made me realize that I can try something new every day.”
“GirlPower is all about supporting one another.”
“GirlPower is a safe place where you feel welcomed.”
“GirlPower is where you go to be heard and listened to.”
“Mentoring is that safe place full of community and sisterhood. You can trust that you will learn and grow in this space.”
We say it time and time again, and it always rings true: our goal here at A Place Called Home is to support our young people in discovering their passions, realizing their dreams, and building fulfilling futures for themselves. The APCH Mentoring Program provides a safe, nurturing space with new opportunities, experiences, and resources to do just that.
Happy National Mentoring Month!
P.S. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a mentor, HERE’S YOUR SIGN to join us! Email [email protected] to learn more about the program and how you can get involved.
P.P.S. Be sure to save the date for our GirlPower! Luncheon coming up on May 5, 2023. It’s going to be a wonderful celebration of the members of our GirlPower Program and inspiring women making a difference in the world.
